This vintage map print presents the Plan of the Township of Sutton, Redcliff Point — a focused coastal survey of what is now Redcliffe, Queensland. The map documents the foreshore edge and a small number of inland blocks, extending only as far as present-day John Street, reflecting an early emphasis on shoreline access rather than full township coverage.
Undated and attributed to R.S. Hews & Co, the plan captures Redcliff Point at a formative stage, when the settlement was still being defined through its relationship with the bay. The limited scope gives the map its character: a measured strip of coastline, surveyed with intent, before inland expansion reshaped the peninsula.
The township name Sutton — later abandoned — marks a brief chapter in Redcliffe’s naming history, making this map an especially compelling record of a place mid-transition.
